The 13th Continuum joins together two descendants of survivors from the Doom that took place a thousand years ago: Myra Jackson, a girl who is labeled as a heathen in the underwater 13th Continuum, and Captain Aero Wright, soldier in the outerspace 2nd Continuum. Right before the Doom took place, making the Surface inhabitable for 1,000 years and obliterating all of the humans on the Surface, the “chosen” humans were selected to help the human race survive in 13 continuums, or colonies. Myra Jackson soon realizes that the her continuum, the underwater 13th Continuum, must return to the unutterable Surface or they will die. Captain Aero Wright, at the same time, faces opposition in the outerspace 2nd Continuum on his and the Supreme General’s mission to return to Earth. They both try to return to the Surface, where they realize is their true home.
This book is probably the best book I have read in a long time! It’s now actually a new favorite, probably now number 2! I ended up devouring this book, and I couldn’t put it down. It was so amazing! I just loved it! From the beginning that hooked me to the end that made me wanting more, I found myself being thrust into the book, being immersed in the struggle to return to the Surface.
The premise of a human civilization surviving in continuums that have been corrupted or destroyed over the course of time fascinated me. The beginning, which started off right when the Doom started, was brilliant. I found myself so hooked into the book that I was blown away. When you get to the ending, every single detail is somehow tied up. There were no loose ends, no unnecessary details. Jennifer Brody knew how to connect every single dot, from the Doom that happened 1,000 years ago to the present, and it was a smart move.
The 13th Continuum is so well-written that it felt like I was watching a movie. There was so much action, adventure, friendship, romance, plot twists… oh my! You’re going to need to prepare for this roller coaster ride! Even the dual-POV made me want to read more. It felt like The DaVinci Code meets The Hunger Games, but even better. It was that good.
I have nothing, not even the smallest, thing against this book. I enjoyed it so much that I can’t even criticize any detail. Maybe the epilogue, but that’s how the author will get you. With the epilogue so absurd, so weird, and so cliff-hanger-ish, I just want to know what that has to do with the sequel. I just really want to read the sequel so badly! I can’t wait for me to get my hands on it! I’m hoping it will be as good, or even better, than this one!
I’m just going to say it: You are going to enjoy this book. I’m going to guarantee it!
Recommendation: 110% Yes, and that’s not a typo!
